I was curious if some folks could reccomend a few good units to support a 70-200mm canon lens on a 30d in the $120 price range. I wish I had time to do some serious research but the store is closing and Im going shooting shortly. I will take your words for it

30D, Elan II, Hasselblad 500cm, 24-70mm f/2.8L, 70-200mm f/2.8L IS, 50mm f/1.8 II, Tokina 12-24mm F/4, Zeiss planar t* 80mm f/2.8, 430EX, Manfrotto 3021b + 3265, Hoya 77mm S-HMC Thin
Want: 5d, 4x5 gear (but in which order?)

I know that the Slik Master Classic's max load cap. is @ 13.20lbs which I would think would be sturdy enough to hold the 70-200mm & 30D.But its priced at $139 on B&H and thats not including s&h.

Treeshugger,
Read this before you buy. This seems to be the way of alot of people end up with a final tripod.

You don't take a photograph. You ask, quietly, to borrow it.

Good advice. If you absolutely can't wait, the Bogen 3021 fits your budget and is a good choice.

good gravy! that is some depressing stuff
i hope its just that the photographer doesnt realize that he is far more discerning than the typical tripod owner
the end user is developing his skills as he upgrades the gear, finding the limitations over time and taking good pictures

i decided not to buy yet as a result of this article
im going to do some thinking
