Ball moves smoothly and a quick twist of the locking knob holds even my 500mm solidly in place. My only dissapointment was that the FLM QR plate does not take Swiss Arca plates. (Did not realise that when I bought it) so I have replaced the plate an SA compatible plate. You can buy the ball without the plate. Prior to that I had a Manfrotto ball head. Maybe I had a bad one, but it never seemed to lock securly without really harse tightening of the clamp. Vorspunge Durch Technic - or is that my Audi.. Regards Barry
