My wife and I chat all the time. I even tell her what I had for lunch. A new lens makes for even better conversation. If it is significant to me, she wants to hear about it and vice-versa.

If either of us wants to drop serious change on anything we discuss it.

Honesty is always the best policy. I could never enjoy something I had to lie about in order to get. My wife and I have enjoyed 42 years of wonderful marriage by following these four simple rules:

One. Learn the art of compromise
Two. Learn to say “I’m sorry”
Three. Never go to bed angry
Four. Always, always keep each other as best friends

Excellent advice. However, you left out the most important part of number THREE: Never go to bed angry. STAY UP AND CONTINUE FIGHTING.

It is much more fun to get into bed and "resolve" your differences ;)

I've never had to lie to my wife. She demands (and gets) full reciprocity in her own shopping venues. She's seems quite able of exacting full revenge in Louis Vuitton stores, for example.

Louies? Darn, those are more expensive than L's.

Tell me about it. We're invited to drive over to Beverly Hills tomorrow for a 'private showing' of some exclusive pieces. It's like they knew we have an anniversary coming up next week.vmad

Are you kidding??? My wife has all the good stuff but sometimes I have to keep her from selling off an L that she doesn't think she uses enough.
I am quite happy with my 20D and two lenses but I do dream about a 5D w/ a 24-105 L on occasion.

Maureen has always been an angel when it comes to my toys. I remember when I had to tell her that I had pitched my Sabre down the road in Monterey and her response was,; "Well I guess you had better find yourself another one, hence my VFR750F. Of course my life insurance is the first payment she makes every month :-)

Thanks honey.

Honestly, we have always discussed major purchases with each other...always. I also have to be careful about what I tell him I like...he's apt to buy it!!!;)

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

I don't tell the wife, She is not interested in the hobby so why tell her about the new Tamron 17-50 f/2.8,or the cost of it, she would think I "need help". Just like I wouldn't understand what is so special about some things that she buys. I tried to get her involved in Photography but gave up. If it does not affect our finacial situation, why bring up the cost?

I am a fan of the NBN label.

No Brand Name. Much less expensive and I don't feel guilty stuffing dirty laundry into it;)

Here is another way to keep the wife happy. Twice a year the International Jewelry Show comes to the Dulles EXPO Center with 500+ venders and every kind on jewelry one can imagine. My wife loves jewelry more than I do Canon lenses :) So, I give her the AMEX card and tell her not to come home empty handed. I've even been known to go with her and carry her bags :) As a side benefit I get AMEX points towards my next "free" Canon toy ;)

Am I the only one who has ever lied to their spouse about buying a piece of camera equipment or are there other guilty, gutless spouses out there like me? I knew my wife would never let me spend the money I needed to buy the Ef-S 10-22 so I secretly saved $10 or $20 dollars here and there and stuffed it into an envelope. When I had enough money I sent in a check for the proper amount to a well known Photography Store. The two week wait for it to be delivered nearly killed me, but that is way beside the point. I was obsessed with photography (this forum really doesn't help with that at all, by the way) to the point where I just had to have this new lens, even if it meant being less than honest.

Anyway, are there others like me? Do you also feel guilty and gutless for what you have done? What did you do about your obsession with photography? And, finally, did you fess up to your crime?

You will never regret doing the right thing, but may always regret doing the wrong thing. Think about it.

I consider myself lucky. My wife would rather have glass than rocks.

Bless the recently fallen and their family and friends.
I have a Cannon with me at all times. You can't take the shot if you don't have something with which to shoot.
