Ok guys and girls. I shoot nature and you can see by my signature i shoot with the 300 f2.8L IS right now. I really want to get a longer lens and I have a few options to make this happen.

1. Sell the 300 and buy the 500 f4.5L
2. Keep the 300 and save for a year or two to get the funds for the 500 f4
3. Keep the 300 and continue to use the 2xIi alll the time...

Tell me what you would do?

I voted for the 2x, but I really think you should use the 1.4x.. I've heard bad things about the 2x and image quality. Plus you're starting with the 2.8, so you're not going to lose *that* much speed.

I've been saving for the 300 2.8 and am just a couple of months away from ordering it.
Then I'll start saving for the 500 4 & a Wimberly, that should take me a couple of years.

I would go with a 1.4x =f4 and 420mm and be happy for a cheaper solution.

Two bodies left, some "soso" lenses, and still a lot of gear.....

Hi Eric,

I voted for (2) .... make do with the 300 2.8 + 2x until you can afford either the 500 f4, 600 f4 or Sigmonster.

Depends why you're unhappy with the 300mm and TCon combo ...

well if the 2x gives you the reach go that route as the IQ is only a little down on the 500f4 -then save and make a very informed decion at a later date.

I'd use the converter while saving up.

I'm a big fan of saving up for lenses, tho I'm not averse to taking advntage of ointerest free credit if there's a good offer on the go!

Where do I vote 'None Of The Above'? If I were not going to get a longer lens at this time, I would use the 300mm and 1.4x TC (Canon). A bit more reach and maintain high IQ.
