I started out at photo.net and still go there to see if there's any interesting
.There are some awsome guys there but the place NEEDS some modernising in it's format and aims.
This is definitely one of the friendliest :) and most things work extremely well.Too bad pictures can't be posted here (hosted just for forum purposes)
I have to agree with others about the format at DPreview and photo.sig.
Why anyone would purposely design a forum format that way??!!! What pure stupidity.

My main hang-out is over at dslreports forums, you'd be surprised at the digital imaging crowd over there.
the dslreports digital imaging forum (external link) and the dslreports DI hardware forum (external link)
Some great info to be found, it's while hanging out there that I found a link to this forum :) Now I'm a lurker here.
I also hang at the Rob Galbraith forums (external link) from time to time. I tried the dpreview forums, but I just can't stand the layout.

I lurk at photo.net when I'm bored at work - if you read between the attitudes you can get good info.

The other place I frequent is Nature Photographers Online (external link). Not many posts, but some *extremely* talented people hang there. The forums are good, and they've got some great articles and the photos can be quite unbelievable.

However, Pekka has always had great, readable forum software, and the crowd here is not only informative but a hell of a lot of fun. This place is #1.

Rob Galbraith's forum is the only place I have regularly seen Chuck Westfall (Canon Technical Guru) post. I guess I'll have to add the 1D forum to my bookmarks to keep up.

This is definitely my main hangout. We have such an awesome group here and we have fun too. FM is more serious and more on the pro-side of things. RG is also good cause Westfall hangs there. DPReview is hideous and an absolute waste of time except for their reviews. I avoid their forum like the plague.

This is my 'home' hangout. I lurk at dpreview, RG, and FM, but mostly when there is a big, new topic (PMA, new cameras, etc.) so I can see other perspectives. As others have mentoioned, I have IDs at RG and FM, but can't remember my password.

Pekka and the other moderators do an excellent job of keeping things organized. One aspect that I would particularly like to thank Pekka for is the absence of ads and pop-ups. It is much more productive for me to concentrate on digital photography (tangents and all) without having to get out my 'flyswatter' every time I switch topics, forums, whenever.

:) :D  :) :D  :) :D  :) :D  :) :D  :) :D

Have Fun

This forum is very good, and I spend alot of time here. Lots of good info and discussion, and that is the reason we hang out at forums like this in the first place... I do spend a fair amount of time at Photomigrations.com because the photogs there are extremely good and post alot of high quality nature shots. Take a look, you'll be impressed if you like nature photography. They can be a little on the arrogant side though.

This forum is actually only #3 of the forums I visit regularly. You guys are great, but I can only take so much of you.

Only kidding. I get a lot of my technical fix here, but there is a lot more to photography than technical. I like the social aspect as well as being able to help newbies before they grow their egos and become stuffed shirts.

My number one forum is http://www.zuga.net/forums (external link) (they are down for some maintenance at the moment). Another I visit is: http://www.wetcanvas.com/ (external link) which covers a lot of artistic forums as well as a photography one. Mostly non-professional type photographers but still pretty friendly. And a real good mix of photographes from other countries, which is always interesting to talk to.

One I use to particapate in a lot is http://ilp.tlcwe.com/forums/index.php (external link) which is part of the PhotogForum site. This forum is mostly made up of women and is geared towards photography of kids, infants, maternity, but also covers other areas.

And I also visit several pet and dog photography related message lists and a few other. There are a lot out there, some are good for different things and some are just fun to post and read on.

I Echo These Sentiments

I lurk at Fred Miranda. Excellent photographers. Don Ellis refers to FM as the "Deep End of the Pool". :D Don has a way with words. DPReview........get ready for the flame.......are mostly a bunch of children. With the exception of some information every once and a while, you are pounced on for any comment. I like Phil Askey's reviews but the forums, forget it.

I share the above sentiments.

DPReview is infantile, FM is deep, and Galbraith is experienced but dry - now probably even more so that Project "idiot" or some such thing has kicked off. But Chuck of Canon frequents there.

This forum has spirit and experience.

#1 Here (the people here can talk about more than just photography)
#2 Dpreview (it's like watching a train wreck) but there are a lot of very smart and technical people there.
#3 Galbraith (Westfall)
#4 Miranda (I'd pick up more there if I actually knew what they were saying :D
