IXUS 800is computer connection problem

Hey,
Ive bought recently a IXUS 800IS and I am quite pleased with it. My only problem is that i cannot make my PC see the camera.

I have installed the software CD and after I connected the camera it installed the drivers for 'Canon camera' as I am told in Device manager. But when i want to use the EOS Utility or the Zoom Browser to get the pictures from my camera it says that the camera is not connected.

I have tried to reinstall it several times and the same result keeps frustrating me. On another computer worked just fine but on my PC it just says the Canon camera is connected in Device manager and that's it.

It's worth mentioning that the PC link LED on my camera is not lit when I connect the camera, although I can it in Device manager (as I have said before).

What am I to do?! Thanks.

Since the majority of users connect their cameras to PCs for pictures transfer only, I assume that you are amongst them, so I suggest you to buy a simple card reader and save yourself a lot of frustration. For some reason Canon cameras do not behave like a normal USB equipment should.

Best wishes,
Oleg.

Yes, it's set on Review. I have tried several other combinations and stil no result (as expected).
Regarding that card reader, could you tell me an estimative price or something like that?! Also could you tell me what kind of memory cards Canon uses?! I have a 1GB Panasonic SB class2 card and i'm not sure what kind of card reader is compatible with that.

Thanks.

I use this one (external link). It's not cheap, but I had several problems with cheap readers before and in the end decided to go with a high quality product.

Best wishes,
Oleg.

This sounds more like a system problem. Which operating system are you useing? If a PC with XP, have you installed ALL updates. You must have SP2 installed.
Get a good Card reader, thats the easiest. Then you can setup your files as you prefer instead of how some program thinks IT should.
Lexar, Sandisk make the fastest multi readers, all under $50 USD.

Buying a card reader is probably the best approach, but I still would like to try and see why it's not working.

I use win XP with SP2, as I have said I closed all firewalls and security programs. The only thing that comes to my mind and can interfere is the Bluetooth adaptor that uses COM14 and COM15. But i tried with it shut down and still nothing....

Spend $10 and lose the pain and buy a card reader, you won't regret it!!!

Well since everyone seems to be so convinced it won't work I'll stick to the card reader solution.

Thanks guys! :D
