it was a rather cold 68* yesterday (1.11.2007) in santa cruz ca. there was a surf competition going on at steamers lane, unfortunately i only had my kit lens, so i didnt get any good ones of the surfers, however i did snag a good one of the lighthouse. this is straight out of the camera, no PP, just the kit lens and a cheap CP filter

Exposure-wise very good. Composition: the top is chopped. And also the building is "leaning back". This can easily be corrected using PhotoShop.

the problem with that, is that there is a nasty rail that swings out on the left of the shot. you can see the rail that runs behind the lighthouse, it cuts in, you can even see the shadow. if i stepped back that would be in the front of the photo...and that bugs me.

what do you mean by "leaning back", and how can i prevent that from happening in the future. is it caused by camera angle? lens size?

The composition is a bit tight, but is still very nice. Is/was that a real lighthouse? It looks more like a small coffee shop in the shape of one. ;)

I mean that the vertical lines of the building are not vertical but they are converging as you go up...
It is caused by tilting the camera. To prevent: don't tilt or use a tilt-shift lens. Or correct afterwards in post processing. If you correct afterwards keep in mind that you will need to crop your picture further. See this tutorial on how to correct converging verticals...

This light house is actually a Surf Museum. Noticed the flag is half mast. What day was this?

Flags are to be flown half-mast for 30 days following the death of former President Ford.

Cool lighthouse pic, I'm a fan of lighthouses.
