I have an A620, I've had it about 6 months or more.

Here's an image, very small but you can see the dot. This is the bottom right of my viewscreen when taking a horizontal photo. I do see the dot on my viewscreen when composing the photo also.

Exif for this photo:

7.3mm, F/7.1, 1/250

Could this be on my sensor or is it more likely on my lens? The lens looks clean but I have not cleaned it as I do not have any cleaning supplies. Which leads me to my next question. What is the best way to clean the lens of a compact camera?

Thanks.

It looks like a water splash that has dried on your lens. To find out if it is on your lens rather than on your sensor take two photos one at each extreme of your camera's zoom setting. If the spot moves then it is on the lens if it is stationary then it is on your sensor. It would be very unusual to have something on the sensor of a compact but it could happen.

My kids are always getting fingerprints on everything so a lens brush is never enough for me. I use some lens cloths I picked up at the opticians counter in Wal-Mart they are branded in dark a blue and white box as "Zeiss Lens Cloths - Pre Moisened". These cloths are specified for lens use and are individually wrapped like airline towelettes but only contain Isopropyl Alcohol so they leave no residue and dry quickly. I find them great to keep with my gear when out and about and sticky fingers get where fingerprints are not wanted.

EQUIPMENT: Canon Powershot S3 IS, 2x Transcend 2GB x150 SD, 2x 4GB Class 4 Dane-Elec SDHC, LensMate 52mm Adapter Tube and lots of stuff to hang on it.
A couple of flashes and a couple of strobes. My other camera is a Sony DSC-P200.

Thanks for the info. I will have to do some test shots tomorrow as I get off work after dark. :) One thing I do know is that it is a small dark dot at that focal length and then at a higher focal length it is less in focus and is not as noticable, which makes me think it's on the lens. (Might have answered my own question there. :) )

I think the new walmart near me is opening soon so I will check out the pre moistened lens cloths as soon as it does. :)

Yes sounds like on the lens.

I'm sure other stores carry similar product.
I had a spot like that on my lens in the summer and did not notice for a couple of days, it was almost invisible when you looked at the lens. I used a fresh Kleenex then and it worked OK - I bought the Lens Cloths the very next day! Thankfully the spot was not noticeable in 90% of the 700 shots that were taken in those two days.:-)

Be happy my nearest Wal-Mart is 3000miles away.

Ahh Dublin. :) I might be visiting this year for a day or two. I'll be in Scotland for 2 weeks and my friends there have never been across. Crazy since they're in their mid 30's and been in Aberdeen their whole lives. I've been to dublin once before. Hopefully this trip is better.

Thanks again for the info. I will get some wipes asap and see how it works.
