Hi! starting to photograph wrestling for my sons local club (they saw i had a camera with a big lens - ;) 300d with sigma 70-200 2.8.). So now the pressure is on to produce good shots. Trying to move around to get all/most of the kids is tough - use to being able to focus on my son...

took these at a mini exhibition prior to a HS varsity meet - I'm not to worried about focusing at this point, more interested in opinion on composition and exposure...( i played around with the settings, M, Tv, Av ) different shutter speeds...used a Canon 420ex and was able to sit mat side...and i don't think getting mat side is going to be a problem in the future..

was looking to upgrade to 30d prior to being asked, now i have a real reason.

(i have more - but could only upload 2)

Thanks,
Scott

I think that you've captured the shots well. I've been to a couple of wrestling events but never photographed. It's fast and can be over in just a few seconds.

Comments about shots - they look a little OOF to me. I think I would try a faster shutter speed and see how that turns out. Do you use a mono pod or just hand hold? I might try a different crop on the first but this one is OK. They both look a little underexposed to me.

Yes, getting them all sometime is tough. I shoot my sons in basball, football and cross country. I shot who I can and try to get as many shots over the course of several games and events. From there, I put each kids on a seperate CD and give it to them at the end of the season. They and the parents really appreciate this.

Keep it up and send us some more.

Thanks for the comments...yeah, as far as focusing - I think center point focusing will work better...to much movement otherwise..

Neither one of the pics are cropped, 1st one was pretty much centered, until i snapped it - boy they are quick...

The 2nd one - the wrestler on the bottom is a girl and the boy on top and just gotten elbowed in the face..

ok..so i decide to put more on my personal website - more or less for the club website to link to and for out of town relatives to check out...easier than sending in emails IMHO...

i know, not the greatest quality..looking to get better....one question thought...

more recommended....shoot tight or shoot wider and crop tight? (Gallery pics are not cropped)
