Hi, I got this camera a couple of days ago, and was wondering what kind of noises are typical for this camera? Sometimes when I'm not even taking a picture, I will hear a constant whirring noise coming from inside, and am not too sure if this is normal.?

Thanks for any help, and sorry if these queries seem trivial.

:)

The sound you are hearing it likely the motor that drives the lens in and out. It's common on the newer Canon compacts to make this sound. You will notice the sound is not present in the review mode if the lens is retracted.

I got stuff for taking pictures. :o When things are unclear - It's time to refocus.

I have the A610 and I have no idea what noise you're referring to... If the camera sits for 30 seconds, it will turn off pulling the lens in. That's about the only thing I can think of.

Well, I was close with my answer. I stand corrected.

Thanks for the replies. And thanks for the link Robukincan, that is in fact the noise I am talking about, and judging by what he said, it isn't much of a problem unless you're picky. I guess in a couple of weeks I'll decide whether or not it's just too annoying to handle.

Umm, a camera that's not annoying probably won't take good pictures! :D

I never notice the noise on mine by the way ... only if its extreme low light and im making it constantly re-focus ... I wonder if its a bad build ... maybe you can go into a store and try one and see if it does the same thing. The only noise that annoys me on the A630 is the zoom lens moving :)
