Well, I never knew that until today. I just learned that JEITA, the standards organization that wrote the Exif specification, specifies it as Exif in their documentation, not EXIF, in upper case, as is usually the norm with acronyms.

Just thought I'd pass this along in case you didn't know it either. :)

Is EXIF an acronym? Raw isn't. And if Exif isn't an acronym, then it should be Exif.

Yes, Exif stands for Exchangeable Image File Format, so it is an acronym. You can read the whole story in the 172 page document here in PDF (external link). Enjoy :D

So, IMHO, EXIF and Raw.

I too share your opinion, however the folks at JEITA determined otherwise, so as Leo said its Exif. :)

I don't buy that the Graphic Interchange Format is pronounced "JIF" either. And acronym is an acronym. So for me, EXIF, Raw, and GIF.

wow...I thought there was a written in stone rule about acronyms being all caps, but I guess not:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acronym (external link)

a search on oxford's and webster's online dictionary doesn't say anything either.

I guess if you make up the term, you can say how to use it...Exif it is!

Jason - I use Canon and stuff

Of course.

:-)

Yeah, I have to eat some of those words I guess. (But I will still pronounce "GIF" with a hard G.)

So why isn't it Jeita?

They can have my caps lock key when they pry it from my cold dead fingers! EXIF forever!
