Well, there's this sport called synchronized swimming and diving... Why not synchronized chess? Today I was at my boys' chess tournament that took all day (6 matches!), and when I was going through the images upon returning home to process them, I noticed that my boy and another boy next to him were posing almost identical!

Great shots! You have to wonder if they weren't monitoring eachothers play subconsiously, much the same as two people speaking with eachother will mimmick eachother movements. Well done to capture this. Oh- and the parents shot is great- reminds me of the movie "Finding Bobby Fisher" when the parents are expelled to the basement!

Thank you for your kind comment. He and his older brother each won 5 matches and lost 1. My younger one, shown above, had the checkmate on the decisive match but didn't see it.

This was one of tune up tournaments for the state championship coming up next month. My consolation: better error here than then! :D

Thank you for looking and your kind comments. Actually, these two boys have played each other before in previous tournaments, and they have mutual respect for each other. I was thinking the same, i.e., subconscious mimicking each other due to mutual respect for one another.

Believe it or not, every single time I'm at my boys' tournament, I think about the movie, "Searching for Bobby Fischer," because what I'm facing is just like in that movie!! My boys, by the way, just love this movie, and they've seen it several times. Their hero? Josh Waitzkin, of course, whose life the movie is about. :D

Oh, you may think that my boys must be exhausted after playing chess for 6 rounds from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. As a parent standing, pacing, and waiting outside the door all day long with nervous and sweating palms.... Kids have easy, trust me!

Okay, it's past midnight right now, and I'm beyond wasted, so good night to you all and sweet dreams...

Searching for Bobby Fischer is one of my favourite movies of all time! It's been too long since I've played chess though- over 2 years since my last game and over 5 since my last tournament. I miss it. Too many hobbies and not enough time!!!

At least you've stopped playing chess due to so many other hobbies and the time issue. I feel bad, especially for youngsters, when they drop out of chess due to other reasons. When you do get a chance, get back into chess. It's an insane game! :D

Sys - your chess shots have gone from pretty good to absolutely great. I'm pretty sure Chess Life would publish them, if you tried. Fine composition and tecnical execution.

your son should capture from the edge to center (shot 2), in general. but if he can really make the moves to convert the double battery to a triple (from shot 3 to 4) then he's doing pretty well.

Great shots. I love the stare shot too. :)

Is this in school or club?
