As someone who can handhold with accpetable sharpness on wide lenses at speeds nearly slower than the IS seems to promise, in some cases, it doesn't really get me to excited. But it might be good as far as competition goes-- it's always good to get a fire lit under Canon, perhaps to come out with some kind of magical 5 stop IS or somesuch. Or maybe some mehanism to stabilize the subject?

That's why I always have a roll of duct tape in the car.
