I took this today, I cropped it to get rid of some distracting elements on the left and converted it to B & W to give it more impact.

Sorry not for me. it's ok but I don't like the really black section on top.

it's too black on top, and the whites are blown out. I like the shot as such, but i don''t like the b & w conversion. Care to post the colour version? Maybe cropping a bit off the top might help too.

When I take photos like this, I usually use them as a teaching aid for myself, trying different techniques and such. This is probably close to what I would have done should I have taken this picture. I personally like dark photos, so this one works for me.

Renboy...unfortunately the original photo had the top very dark too, which transfered to the black when converted to B&W.

Catsith....I was trying to go for a contrasty end result to give the hard, grainy feel of the stone...here is the original version.

cameragirl, i do prefer the colour, but would crop into a vertical like you did originally and play with saturation/contrast or levels etc to make it pop.
sorry tungsram, don't like your version.
but that is the beauty of photography, it is an art, and what one likes, another may not, so go with what you like!

Hi Steve, Nice to see another Westonian here, glad you enjoyed the local shots, we're lucky to live in such a photogenic area aren't we ?
Ashot windmill is worth the visit, although it is along a muddy back lane, I also intend to go back there again sometime to get some sunrise or sunset shots.
