No need commenting on the dust spots....I know what to do about those.

What do you make of the white stripe across the top of the image? That just showed up today, and it's a concern.

BTW, I was shooting with my 400 f/5.6L

Update.....

I actually shot three lenses today. The 400, the 24-10L, and the 70-200 f/2.8L IS. The line only shows up on shots taken with the 400. Now I'm wondering if there's a problem with the lens, and honestly, I can't think of anything that would cause a line like that.

Ideas?

Okay...it's more like light blue. There's a narrow band at the very tippy top of the image that runs all the way across. My eyes are weaker than most, and I see it without difficulty.

I've downloaded and zoomed in quite a bit. I see what appears to be white ghosts, but they are not a line, more like wisps of clouds. So, sorry, I don't see a white stripe that you see. ???

Thanks for going to the trouble. Maybe my problems are mental and not photographic. It actually looks like a light border at the top of the image. I can sure see it, and it appears in every image I shot today with the 400.

I guess the easy fix is not to use the 400 any more, although that's really not a cost-effective solution.;)

Again, thanks for looking. I'm not sure why you can't see it.

Ok, after reading that it is at the top of the picture, I do see at the very top, a stripe of darker blue with a lighter stripe just above that. Yes, it runs across the total picture.. Odd, like a film picture where the film was exposed to sunlight, like you used to get at the end of a roll of film. I'm a rookie, hopefully one of the more advanced people can help, I did my best.

I see it - If it were on all lenses, I'd consider it a sensor problem. But it's not. Is it a consistent problem that occurs only with the 400?

If it were on the bottom, I'd blame the mirror for not fully retracting. Is there any obstruction towards the back of the lens? In the filter slot (assuming this is the 400/4 DO or 400/2.8 ) clear?

I see it and it sure looks weird :(

It only happened when you used the 400? In all of the pics you took with it? That's definitely strange too.

No. This is the 5.6. I looked down the muzzle from both ends, and it's clear. I thought about the mirror thing, too, but why only on the 400? This is a puzzlement.

I wish!!:lol::lol::lol:

I will try it on my 1D Mk II (1.3X crop). I also have a Rebel XT I can try it on. I probably won't be able to get to that until tomorrow, though.

That is so bizarre. I wish you the best but have no ideas what it could be. It obviously wouldnt be the hood its catching... Were you using it at the time? If so, was it tight? Just the only thing I can think of.

The hood on the 400 f/5.6L is built-in. It slides into place, and really couldn't interfere with the image.
