Hi, I am the proud owner of a 1D classic. It gives me a lot of pleasure..BUT..this happened yesterday.
Look at the picture..at the right side are a kind of stripes..what is it? Noise of the 400 ISO, banding? Has anybody an idea?

looks like banding to me typical of the early model 1d's which is more pronounced at higher iso's and underexposure.
It looks underexposed.

My serialnr is 1895..so its probably an early version. Is there something I can do to prevent this? BTW the picture was not underexposed...
Is overexposing a solution to prevent this..it irritates me that a camera like this has this disadvantage..I thought I bought a pro? ;)

Cheers from Holland

I'm the happy owner of a 1D classic and I've learned to live with the "noise". I do use Noise Ninja on occasion to help lessen it, but usually it's fine. IMO, this camera is still very competitive. Pick up a p+s's photo, and compare... even with the noise, you'll like the 1D's photo better.

I will try Noise Ninja..just wanted to know if it is a problem that I can tackle while taking the picture. I'll keep on practising...:)

BTW... are you shooting in jpeg or RAW? Maybe it's me, but I find that I can clean up the noise better in RAW format vs. jpeg. Maybe it's just me.

Even though I dont own a 1D body (give me time) I have heard and seen this banding problem on some of the earlier models. The advise you have been given is pretty much what you should do. :)

Banding may appear more often with earlier sensors, but there are people with 5D experiencing the same problem. I had it maybe 2-3 times on 20D. I think, it happens under certain rare circumstances. It usually shows on out of focus areas at 400 ISO and higher. How often you had it?

still thinking...

First time..so I'll have to wait and see what the future brings...BTW I'm very content with the camera. Coming from a 300D..its like taking a hot bath outside while its minus 5 Celsius...

I hear you. It is probably completely different feeling. ;) I wouldn't worry too much about banding, because it is not like something wrong with the camera and it shouldn't happen too often.
