I'm finally deciding to look into tripods. I admit, when I decided to buy my XTi a few months ago, I didn't think I'd be spending more than $50 on a tripod. I was reluctant, but I finally decided on a Bogen Manfrotto 725B. It was $110 (apparently low-priced in the tripod world), weighed only ~3lbs and could support 7lbs. And I figured that would hold my XTi and a future 70-200mm. But I was later told the max load ratings are very inaccurate and the 725B might not handle it. So I started looking into Dynatran.
I only started reading about tripods and separate heads. I noticed the Amnova auctions don't specify the threading. Are all Dynatran tripod (male) and head (female) threading 3/8"-16? And all their quick release plates "1/4"-20? Does "professional tripod" mean it uses 3/8"-16 threading?
I noticed Amnova sells separate legs, heads and complete tripod kits. Do the model numbers somehow indicate which legs and heads make up a kit? For example, is the CF994 kit made up of the CF94 legs and some head?
Also, are there any other low-cost (under $150), decent quality tripods other than Dynatran?
