First post in this section, woohoo!

I think this a Sparrowhawk, maybe someone would be kind enough to confirm this.

Taken in my garden this morning through glass :( , he knew I was there so I couldn't get outside. I'm not sure how long he had been there but there was not much left of the pigeon!

Taken with 300d, 70-200, ISO 400, small amount of sharpening.

thanks for looking.

That is a nice shot! You had a great view, evidently. Not sure which hawk/falcon/eagle that is...lolol.

Yep, it's a female Eurasian sparrowhawk, Accipiter nisus.

Wow, I'd love to get a visitor like that in my yard. That's a great shot with her giving you a little stare. I suppose she wasn't in the mood to share ;)

This looks very much like our Sharp-shinned hawk. The one I photographed in my back yard just before New Years has red eyes.

I had the very same scene in my garden last night.

A female one too. It took her around about 45 mins to eat the pidgeon. She knew we were there just maybe 4 metres away looking through the window but there was no way she was going to give up her kill. It was dusk though too dark for any photos but still a great thing to witness.

Wow; real nice shot! How long did it stay around for? Did anyone get the bird ID on the victim now that we have the culprit ID'd? You may also want to buy some bird seed...
