My son had a series of mishaps during our recent trip to Ethiopia. First he fell and busted his head open really good only the second day in country. Received a nice gash just above the left eye. We took him to the local hosptital in Addis, but they really didn't do a whole lot for the little guy. Of course I was worried about him getting a staff infection and running into some serious trouble. Amazingly, he didn't cry all that much. Only when they messed around with the wound. Tough kid. A couple of days later he ran a pretty high fever and went into a fever induced seizure. The entire family freaked out and we rushed him to a local hospital in Dire Dawa where they administered treatment and admitted him for a couple of days. The little trooper received excellent medical care in the relatively primitive medical facility, and he was able to pull through rather quickly. In the following days he caught the flu and then got a serious case of the diarreaha. Needless to say my little monkey had a pretty rough time. Through it all, he remained tough and determined. He's doing fine now. I was going through the thousands of images I shot while over there and came across this one that I thought I'd share. This was the first day he was admitted to the hospital after the seizure. In this shot the gash on his over his eye was being sealed by some skin adhesive. At least he got a cool scar the chicks will dig when he grows up. ;) I love my little soldier.

It's difficult enough when little ones are ill at home, but to go through all that while you're half-way round the world is staggering (and frightening)

Keep us informed how he gets on

Take care
