But thanks anyway. ~Spaceships Don't Come Equipped With Rear View Mirrors~

Difficult though . I shot some women in Algeria in 84 and they were razor sharp to cameras you onluy had to look at them and they wanted money for you to take pics. I don't mind in proincple helping less well off people but it would make it impossible to take pics if you gave everyone money for a pic ![]() lol I don't think moving anywhere would've helped much in this situation. She was on the dance floor and everyone was moving in a big cirlce. I know it's hard to tell that, but trust me. The light background actually consists of other women in traditional dress, which is typically white or some really light color. Thanks for the advice nonetheless. ~Spaceships Don't Come Equipped With Rear View Mirrors~

So I stopped trying to be polite by asking permission, put on my PJ face and shot whoever the hell I wanted anyway. I found that if you look and act like a typical tourist photographer, people will try to take advantage of that. If you act like a professional, they'll be at your mercy. I Algeria the problem was that the last time they saw photographers , the only time people got teir pic taken was before they got shot in their last war, prior to the likes of me turning up more recently Veni, Vidi, Snappi

I particularly like that it presents a culture I'm not familiar with, which is maybe the biggest reason that I enjoy national geographic (likely even moreso than the quality of nat. geo's photos themselves, which are excellent). I had a moment where I wasn't sure of the harsh shadowing on the face but I think given the context that it was the dance floor of a wedding, there's some added interest to think of a dance floor under harsh mid day sun, which is another thing that isn't really very common to myself as a Canadian. Actually, this shot was taken outdoors at night. Though it's hard to tell, there was a strong light source on the subject. ~Spaceships Don't Come Equipped With Rear View Mirrors~
