I can't seem to decide

I have the 35mm f.2 but thats being sold

So which lens do I replace it with. It will mainly live on the 30D but may have the odd outing on the 1DN

Choices are:

24mm f/1.4L
28mm f/1.8
35mm f/1.4L

I will be using this for indoor work mainly ie photographing award ceremonies, indoor car shows (Autosport was the last one and could have done with faster lens, I used the 24-105 f/4 and was mainly as the 24 end), weddings (not official) and general get togethers. So you can see I would like a fast lens that sharp at f/2 min

The Sigma was an option but I have been told that its not a good choice on a 1.3 crop camera (1DN)

i had the sigma 30ex and loved it on a crop camera, as you said not so good on a 1d, so voted for the canon equivalent:) its not a wide angle... but a great focal length.

i think the best way to go is the 35L, and i voted for it.

the 28mm is compact and nice, but at f/2, near wide open, its really not that sharp as the 35L can be.

Does anyone have any pics with the Sigma on a 1DN?

This review is making me think again - http://www.pbase.com/lightrules/30v35_2nd (external link)

The 30f1.4 is a superb lens. But it is designed for 1.6x bodies, so while some use it on their 1D (1.3x), it will vignette.

How bad will it be? Could it be cropped afterwards

This is a good link for what you're asking: 30f1.4 mated to a 1DMK2. It has images to show the vignetting, and it's quite useable at certain apertures too:

Cheers for that.

It seems that most of the pics seemed ok. The only ones, to my eyes, where the ones of the checked floor or have a missed something?

On a crop body I think the 24/1.4 is probably the way to go. The 35/1.4 isn't very wide on a 1.3x and isn't wide at all on a 1.6x body.

Both the 24 and the 35 are truly fabulous lenses, IMHO.

I am not actually after too wide. I have my 10-22 which I use on the 30D

The most important thing is fast when no flash can be used and somit that simlar to 50mm or there abouts

28/1.8 makes a ton of money for me... It's the perfect focal length for my 1D. Super fast ringUSM and my copy is sharp sharp sharp.

Of course the 35L is probably sharper and has better colour BUUUTTTT it's also a lot more expensive =)

Seems like you already scratched the 24 from your list ;)

So, it's either 28/1.8 because it's quite okay (but I don't think it's better then the 35/2.0 exept AF speed/sound) and relatively cheap, or the 35/1.4. 30/1.4 might be usable, but I'd want to try before I'd buy...
