Good story pantie lad ... words not necessary.

Seen many happy people in poverty and seen many well off people lost and in depression. Seen way more happy faces in developing countries, but there is poverty and poverty. Seen many broken people in India, broken in every way and at deaths door. Poverty isn't something to aspire to. Everyone should contribute a little something to organisations that try to make a difference, be it financial or through political action or volunteering. It's unintelligent to do otherwise IMO.

I hear you, Dave. I never hesistate to give something if I have it and others are in need. I've spent a good part of my life contributing to the destruction and choas in the pursuit of liberty for all. So photography is a way for me to reconcile the duality of my being and get back in touch with what makes us human.

Beer doesn't hurt either.

My brother-in-law was with me. He's Ethiopian and resides in London. Handy guy to have around. ;)

Great pictures Lord, seems like you had a busy time, especially with your little one being poorly too.

Pictures like that really do bring home just how lucky we are. but people forget that Ethiopia is one of the oldest Christian civilisations, with a written history going back to pre-Christianity. She's having a tough time in the last sixty years or so, starting with Mussolini and ending with the AIDS and famine issues and the terrible politics that have overtaken this area. But the people are proud and beautiful, and I hope that they can get back to some level of peace and prosperity.

Please show us more of this place and these people!

Lord_Malone, what lenses did you use the most? What can you share about lenses when traveling? Loved your pictures!

Hard to say. I want to say the 70-200. Out of the three I brought I probably used the 16-35L the most, although the 70-200 2.8L IS and the 50L were both put through their paces quite extensively as well. Just a common PJ rig really. I used two bodies, so I always had the 16-35 on one and either the 70-200 or the 50 on the other, depending on the location and scene of course.

Lordy be. You've obviously not lost a step.

I always look forward to your posts, and miss you when you take sabbatical.

What brought you there? How long did you stay? In what conditions did you stay?

^^ All those questions I would ask also...

Wonderful images, Ed. I think it takes someone of your sensibility and intuitive ability to have taken such shots. Fantastic work.

Well, I pretty much got to taste both sides of Ethiopia. The extremely wealthy and the extremely poor. I spent a few days in my wife's hometown living in what most would consider sub-standard conditions. No matter how tight or cramped we were in that small home, there was a sense of togetherness and family that is hard to match. Despite the conditions, I felt very cozy there. The house was in a neighborhood that was occupied by mostly have-nots. I will post pics of the town and its people in a separate post.

On the flip side, my wife's cousin is very weathly and lives in a lakeside mansion near Addis. So we essentially went from spending a week in a 3 room living space shared by everyone, to a house that would humble even the most well-to-do here in the states. They own several companies. And there we were spoiled and cared for by the family and their 8 servants, so I got to experience the best of both worlds.

Oh, and I spent almost 3 weeks there just for vacation. My wife and son are still staying with the rich cousin.
