This was my first request to get some food shots, this is one of several that will probably be in the February issue for a review of the restaurant.

Anyway just thought I'd share as I liked the way this one turned out. My goal on this shot was not really a close up of the food alone but also try and capture some of the mood of the restaurant.

Yeah. made me really hungry))) great capture, and surely far more interesting than a simple food shot, part of the restaurand and waiter gives you feeling that you are there right now and going to eat that delicious thing)))))Hope to see more soon))Also could you please share exif, light setup etc? It's very interesting!

The EXIF is embedded in the image.

I was using natural light as I positioned the food on a table where I felt the lighting was best. I liked the way the light fell off after leaving the table. I had a window behind/to my right and the main light source was somewhat in front of the food (look at the shadow).

You can view EXIF data by installing OPANDA, there is a link in my signature. Once installed you just right click on the image, if the photographer has left the data in there you can view it.

I also ran a photoshop action which uses a blur layer and a couple of steps to make it glow a bit.

Cracking shot. Love the depth of field and dead plumb verticals.

My only comment is I would have preferred to see a glass of wine toward the right hand side of the table rather than the girly drink on the left of the table. I accept that this may be a cultural thing and girly fruit drinks are what is drunk with this meal, in which case please excuse my ignorance...I'd have still rather seen it toward the right though. ;-)a

The waiter in the background distracts me from looking at any other part of the photo.

Well don't forget guys this image was taken to go along with a story on a restaurant review.

Specifically a lunch review, the "girly drink" is what we refer to as "ice tea" here in Texas. Placing it further right would have put it on the edge of the table, which would be a somewhat unnatural position for the table setting.

With respect to the waiter being a distraction by another poster I'm not surprised as not everyone is going to like a specific shot. The good thing was the publisher loved the shot as having the waiter in the background helped capture not only the food that was offered but also the ambiance of the restaurant.

With respect to the choice of foods that was limited by what the reviewer had ordered.

.

I love this forum, it is such a cultural tour de force.

I see where you are coming from with regard to the position of the glass but only if you were seated at the right hand end of the table.

I had imagined the meal set out for me, as the viewer through the eyes of the camera, in which case the glass was in the wrong position for me to pick up.

I now see that the table is rectangular; not square, as I had imagined from my "sitting position". Obviously a misunderstanding, but none the less the way I saw it.

BTW, I like the waiter. He adds to the feel of the whole experience.
