Yesterday, I visited a little reptile zoo in the Ottawa area called Ray's Reptiles! Despite it being closed that day, they let us take a tour. I'm so glad I brought my camera! First time I've shot anything in a tank with the SLR. I used available light on these two, f/4, ISO 1600, and shutter speeds around 50 - 60.

I've heard the trick of angling your camera to avoid a relfection of the glass in your photo, any other tricks? I'm using a Rebel XT with the kit lens. Thanks for looking!

The turtle looks great. The face is super sharp! To be honest, I'm not wild about the composition of the second. The blurry iguana is distracting. Looks like you avoided any glass reflection!

The turtle looks funny, like his nose is squashed against the glass! :-)

I don't mind the top OOF iguana, it's the dark rectangular "thing" hanging from the top of the photo that is bothersome. If you crop the shot to just below that it will improve the look of the photo tremendously.
