Hey guys, I'm about to buy a 30D from B&H i just wanted to know what u guys would suggest as the best wide angle lens that is both cheap and very good for image quality. I dont have brand preference nor care if it is a prime or zoom. I just need to have something that will get me as wide at the mid teens or wider. I'm looking to spend 200-300 at most. ill be shooting nightclubs with a 580 btw...if that means anything.

Hey mate, haven't seen you around for a while =) Welcome back.

I love my 28/1.8 on the 1.25x crop body for nightclub photography. Mid teens and wider, doesn't present much choice in terms of <$300. Look around used for a SIgma 10-20 possibly?

Tamron 17-50f2.8. I've heard great things about it, however it's 450. But it does exactly what your looking for, so I'd think the extra cash is worth it. If the sigma 18-50 is cheaper try that, but it may need to be sent in to sigma for calibration.

Only thing that comes to mind is the kit lens or the Sigma 18-50 f/3.5-5.6.

Hands down ef 35/2 for bang for the buck. They are like 225 bucks and SILLY sharp. Getting down in the mid teens... slim pickins there I think unless you just use the kit lens for the time being.

OP is looking for mid-teens or wider (for a 10D).

Long time no see! That's a tough price range for what you want. I hope you're at least talking US$; CDN$ will be even worse. I'd also look at the Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 or the 17-70 f/2.8-4ish. They're somewhat (but not a lot) less than 450 at B&H.

That's a great price on a good, versatile lens.

Another Sigma fan here, that 17-70 is a pretty fine zoom range and a reasonably fast lens too. and it comes with a hood and a case, I think.

If you're looking for a telephoto then The Canon 70-200 F4 will blow away anything in that price range. Here's a sample:

No doubt, but it's not terribly wide angle! :)

So the wrong end of the focal length scale and way above his price range. Apart from that, exactly what he's looking for!
