Yes you could but doesn't it take a fair amount of effort to get natural looking lighting? Especially if you want to shoot against something other than the sky. I have never tried but have been thinking of experimenting with this with multiple speedlites but not got round to it yet.

With that bokeh, you won't get a shadow, and so far, when I use it, it's more like a fill flash effect, especially when there is already a lot of light, not glaring like some flash shots.
