Little confused about SD & CF memory cards

I already ordered new 1DM2N and plan to order new 5D sooner.

I understood that if I plan to use 1DM2N and it do offer two slots for use one SD for JPEG and one CF for RAW images at same time, correct?

I understood that 5D require at least 12 mb per second SD cards,
1DM2N require at least 8mb per second SD cards. Correct?

I understood that most of you guys prefer 2GB Sand Disk II. What is about CF? use same Sand Disk II for CF?

I really need Sand Disk ultra III or use any brand SD /CF with 133?

I did read different forums at here about SD and CF but they are too complicated for me anyway.

there are no requirements for speed of the cards

you can write jpeg or raw to either, or RAW to cf and jpeg to sd if you are shooting both

Spped depends on what you shoot. If you plan to burst a lot, get the extremeIII or extreme iV. the ultra II are good, but the others are faster.

I see ok. I plan to use 1DM2N for sport and surfing means speed.

I plan to use 5D for studio,wedding, commerical etc.. means not need speed but require higher memory size and high IQ.

The 5D takes CF cards, not SD cards. I've got 6 of the 2GB Sandisk Ultra II cards and have been very happy with them for my wedding work. I shoot all RAW and get around 150 images per card that way. - Stu

CF = compact flash, another type of cord

Sandisk is a manufacturer of both kinds of cards

The majority are CF, the little one on the top left is a SD card.

the 1 series camers take both, the 5d and all other cams take only CF cards

SD means Secure Digital, not Sandisk. The 5D does not take Secure Digital cards. Only CF(Compact Flash). The 1D2 will take both SD and CF cards. Sandisk does offer CF, SD and whole line of various types of storage media.

First off, I would suggest that you do a little background research on the various cards, speeds, vendors, etc. The Bob Galbraith site has a lot of terrific info on the subject. You're buying some pretty high powered gear there and should know what octane it requires .

The 5D will only take a compact flash - CF - card, so I didn't have a choice.

Sandisk, Lexar, ProMaster, Kingston and a whole bunch of others offer both CF and SD cards. I chose Sandisk because of their reputation and reliability, which is not to say that the others are poor choices. It's just a matter of my taste from what I've read.

And right now the Sandisk 2GB Ultra II cards are at a pretty good value and price point. They used to list for $119, but with sales and/or rebates you can get them for as low as $39 each. That is quite a good price. - Stu

I understood that Ultra III and IV are more expensive than Ultra II.

Very expensive MB cards like Ultra III or IV are realy worth for my money or they are gimmick?

The Sandisk III and IV cards have faster write speeds. A waste if you don't own a camera that can't take full advantage of that. In your case the 5D or 1D series will benefit from faster cards. However, the Ultra II cards are no slouch and will be more than sufficient for most applications.
