Hi all, my friend just get a new Canon SD700, but for some reason she has some shadow on the corners of almost every picture when she take pictures with the lens wide open. So she return this and now she got the SD900, but the shadows still in there when you take pictures without zoom, like regular settings on the lens.
Below there are some examples of the pics, she took with the SD700 and the SD900
The first one is take with out flash and the second one with flash.
Do anyone things this cameras are defective? also which other camera I recomend her to buy and not to do this kind of weird things?

Thanks!

My wife has an SD700 and it works great....not sure what would be causing the vignetting in yours

Wait - which camera were these taken with? Both the same one, or one with each? Was she using any accessories?

The second one shows that the flash isn't covering the whole field of view at your widest setting. The first one is showing extremely slight cos^4 light falloff, it looks like. The cos^4 falloff's not really something to worry about. It's only in the very corners, and your subject is virtually never there; in fact film photographers used to regularly burn in the corners of their prints to emphasize the center area.

Has anyone else photographed a uniform surface with flash to see what they look like with the SD900? Something may be out of line, or the design flash may not quite cover the entire FoV.

I believe al these compact cameras do this with flash and lens at wide. Below was taken with a SD600. As you can see, I got the same effect. But it's not something that would matter with everyday shooting. I personally don't believe there's anything wrong with your SD900 or 700.

I get exactly the same effect with the flash on my Ixy 1000 (same as SD900). The flash doesn't reach evenly into the outer corners with lens. Seems to be a feature rather then a flaw.

These little cameras are great for what they were intended to do, but if you start running these kinds of test with them, I'm afraid you will find many things are far less than perfect. Like the built in flash. They are very weak.

Those pics were taken by the SD900, I got some with the SD700 but as soon I get home I will put it, but to be honest they boot has the same effect on the corners. And yes.. the flash seems to be weaker on the SD900 than the SD700, plus the SD900 does not has the capability of IS.

Thanks!!

SD700 does have some vignetting. I expected it to be "minor" but it is somehow noticeable - flaw, but it is a point-n-shoot!

Easiest way to "fix" it is to zoom slighly on target.....
