I have a 20D, several lenses, and a G5. I wanted a truely shirt pocket size camera so I could almost always have a camera with me. I guess I was somewhat surprised to find that, apparantley, I can not force the SD's flash to fire (for fill). I can live with not being able to adjust the ISO because I doubt anything I shoot with this camera would be printed larger than 4x6, but, if there is some 'trick' to forcing the flash to fire it sure would be helpful.

You can set the 600 for the flash to always fire. Just set your camera to Manual, not auto, and you can set the flash in several modes, including always on.

By the way, you can also adjust the ISO from 80 to 800 on the SD600, but not the actual f stop or shutter speed. And by chance, if you want to print bigger than 4X6, you can go to 11X14 with super results.

Ok, Ok, Now I am in 'manual' and have set the ISO and flash as I want it. How do I adjust the aperture and shutter speed?

You can't. "M" on the SD 600 means something different from what we're used to. It just giveys you ISO, EC, flash and, I believe, focus mode control. Anyhow, no aperture or shutter control except indirectly.

I stated in post # 3 that you could only set the ISO, and not the actual shutter speed.
