Faster read/write speed, if your camera can take advantage of it.

Write and read speed. Check-out the reviews here Rob Galbraith (external link)

When thinking about speed don't forget the time it takes to transfer the photos off of the card onto your computer.

Well, it's the same price for a 2Gig regular, as it is for a 1Gig Ultra II

Which one do you think would be better?

I don't buy the regular any more; Ultra II or better. Your XTi will appreciate it, and so will the camera after that.

me and my roommate tried a normal sandisk CF vs Ultra II in his 30D... it took roughly a minute to empty the buffer vs ~12seconds with the Ultra II.

that said, I would stay away from any normal CF

ok, i have a question since this thread relates to the xt/xti:

will the xt be able to take advantage of the speed of the ultra III, both in writing to the card and transferring vis USB? i was wondering if it would be worth the extra money to go for the ultra III over the II.

I use the Extreme IIIs. Great cards. I'm itching to try the Extreme IV though. Now that's fast. Your XT wouldn't be able to take full advantage of that speed though. Ultra IIs are good for you.

EDIT: Jason77, I think you mean Extreme III. There is no Ultra III. The XT won't be able to take full advantage of the speed of the Extreme III and faster cards. I don't know about the XTi, but I think that the Ultra IIs are more than enough for the D Rebs.

extreme III... thats what i meant, thanks.

thanks, lord. i had a feeling the extreme III might be too fast for the xt but wasn't sure. looks like i'll be picking up an ultra II then. i've read about the IV's but can't imagine what that would be like but i'm sure in a few years we'll just be talking about how slow they are compared to the ultra mega VIII's ;)

I'm very stunned to read your post here. I have a 30D and have done the
same tests. I have a 2 GB EXTREME III and a normal Sandisk 1 GB. In my tests
there is no difference in speed for emptying the buffer. Only 2 or 3 seconds
maybee. The CF cards are equally fast in the camera and everybody is telling
me that it's the camera that can not write faster to the cards.

So I wonder if I'm doing something wrong or do I have to redo my tests whit
another CF card in the camera. But I will do the tests again.

I asked Jon that same question and now I have 2 Extreme III's, 4 Ultra II's and a bunch of 1 GB others. The Extreme III's are amazingly fast.
