Can you use rechargeable batteries in the Speedlite 420EX? If so, any good suggestions on type? Thanks

So what does it mean when NiMH has 2100mAh, for example? Does it mean how long the battery can last before requiring a recharge? Or does it mean how much juice it can deliver to the device? And does the 420EX require rechargeable battery of certain current rating to work?
