Short story: I purchased the 1D4 on 5/11, and within one day, and before I even received the camera (5/12), B&H dropped the price back down to MSRP. I was, needless to say, not happy. I called B&H this morning (5/13) and they agreed to refund the $500 difference. How about that for customer service. I can imagine all the other calls they will probably get. Btw, I will be really happy when I see the $500 though.

Thank you. Happy we could oblige you and very grateful you took the time to post this.

IMO:
Amazon.com
and for people in Minnesota, National Camera (www.natcam.com (external link)), they are the best customer service oriented place ive seen

On June 3rd, I saw that B&H had a MT24-ex for sale in the used department. Ordered it at about 9:00 am. I received notice that it had shipped by 1:00 pm. It arrived today in great shape. It was listed as a '9' but could have easily been 9.5 or even 10. It also had a Sagemax warranty good for another 6 months. It is an amazing flash and B&H is the best, in my opinion.
I've also used J&R, Roberts (excellent), Adorama, Amazon, and Allen's Camera - the last of the GREAT brick-and-mortar stores. Just wish that Allen's was a bit closer...

I had my friend (who is in USA) buy a tamron lens from Beach Camera 3 days ago. Today he receives it, suprise: the "barcode" of box is cut out leaving a rectangle hole on it and the lens is not brand new at all. How can we trust this big site with this my very first order ???
Now I have to had him call them for an explanation.

Never BeachCamera again :-(
by the way, can anyone tell me if you had the same trouble in beachcamera, that helps!

I have a friend who was looking for a SLR/Lens combo to photo his kids, I steered him towards B&H, and Unique Photo as secondary. I clearly told him to use caution going elsewhere.
He went ahead and ordered from Beach and had a disastrous experience, the boxes arrived without lids & upc codes cut out, batteries had been replaced for non brand ones and missing warranty cards.
They the told him that since the items were open they could not receive them back, he had to contact better business, file a claim with small claims court, and spent 6 months waiting to get his $$$ back...

The craziest part was that he ordered the same items from Honest Abe afterwards and almost had a similar experience... :) Some people learn the hard way....

Two shops: Midwest Photo Exchange Columbus Ohio 866-940-3686
World of Used Photography Grandview Ohio 614-824-5047
Just stopped into Midwest on Saturday. No insult to others but isn't it nice to shop locally, place your hands on the product, and to talk face to face with someone who shares your passion for photography ?

I love MPEX! I drive up from Cincinnati a few times a year to get stuff from them. If I'm going to try something in the store, I'd like to buy it from them too. They have quite the selection up there.

For repair work, use:

MIDSTATE CAMERA REPAIR

(401) 467-7390

Mark has been very helpful to me over the years, repairing items that Canon would refuse to.
A Modified 580EX that my modification managed to fry, and most recently an EF 135mm L that had seen the ocean up close.

Mark will do what it takes to get you back up and running.

Gotta give a +1 to the above, while I haven't personally had to use their services, everyone I've talked to about Midwest Camera has come back with glowing reviews.

My List of Approvals:

BH-have yet to have a bad experience after using them exclusively for bodies, lenses, etc.

Paul C Buff/Alienbees- again, fantastic experiences so far and great long lasting quality lighting equipment

Amazon.com-Duh.

NewEgg.com-my go to for just about any electronics, software, and so much more. Epic customer service and great prices. Lots of refurbished items available, which I generally prefer.

WHCC- (White House Custom Color) my primary go to for prints, but am also starting to take interest in...

Artsy Couture- another great lab/gift style prints and business accessories (flash drives, cd cases, etc).

That's all I can think of for now.

Brooke
Gripped 7D, Sigma 30mm 1.4, Sigma 85mm 1.4, Canon 100 2.8mm Macro, etc etc.... I just love to shoot!

I fully recommend www.cameracanada.com (external link).

I went through Canon Price Watch to get a better deal on a 70-200mm f2.8 IS ii and Gordon @ CPW found this authorized dealer that would work with me on price and going through Paypal.

I ordered on Monday, it shipped that evening and was here on Thursday!!! A couple days from Canada to middle USA is pretty good.

Just want to give a thumb's up to Allen's Camera. These folks are top notch when it comes to customer service, and they have very competitive pricing.
