what should keep me from pressing ctrl+alt+shift+S then Esc, then Image Size(enter 800 + apply) and after use this button here?

That should work just fine. It just wasn't a feature when I wrote this tutorial.

Or I just didn't know about it... :-)

ok ,thats cool
it confirms my theory then that it's a tool to save images for web :P

no need to fiddle around with the final image in photoshop then (before the save for web tool. to publish it on the web)

-.-

[QUOTE=Scottes;2698835]Optimize To File Size

I didn't even know this option existed until a few minutes ago when I read a post from rowdyred94. When in the Save For Web dialog box you can specify a particular file size and Photoshop will get the best quality that will fit into that file size.

Thank you for this info. I just discovered that I can do this in Photoshop Elements 5, also.

Ruth

Thank you for your positive comments. A lot of what I have learnt about photography has come from spending time on this forum, soaking up info from people who know way more than me and are good enough to share their knowledge.

Having positive comments from other members inspires me to greater things.

Thanks again,

Daz

^^Well now Philmar I'm even more humbled by your comments as I have just spent the last 20 minutes scrolling (and drooling) through some of your photo sets on your flickr.

Re your set from Toronto...beautifully composed details of ordinary things which we might otherwise consider unsightly.

And as for your Bolivian landscape set....stunning. I'm amazed by the the rich colours and textures you have been able to capture from such a vast and seemingly desolate area.

I hope one day I will take photos as well as you do.

Thank you for sharing them,

Daz

No doubt you will. It is a learning process, you clearly have the desire and aptitude to learn.

And of course once you upgrade to CS4 you'll see that better tools make a world of difference. Once you learn RAW, getting good colour is easier.

I have a question for any board mods who may have an answer.

Is there a reason why the maximum length of an image on this board is 1024 pixels rather than say 1100 pixels? Is 1024 pixels an arbitrary cut-off point? Did a line have to be drawn somewhere? Or is there some display issue that results in 2x3 ratio prints displaying better at that size?

just curious- thanks!

Is 1024 pixels an arbitrary cut-off point?

As far as I know, yes. Some members are still on dial-up. Some have small monitors. And more importantly, Pekka, who started & owns the forum, would like it to be user friendly to to everyone. That does not mean that you can't post a link to a larger image if you feel that you have to? But you may not get as many comments on your work as you might like.

IMAGE POSTING RULES only allow 2 attachments by the OP per thread, OR 8 embedded (linked) images, OR a combination of both totaling 8. (Maximum 1024 pixels on any side.)
You can always just post a link to more, though, or better yet, post a link to a gallery so we don't have to click on each image link.
Some exceptions are "Show Me...", "Post your best...", equipment reviews, Tutorials, etc.
You may attach additional photos if requested, but only in a reply to other member's post and request. But don't push the limits, if you know what I mean? ;)
