Has anyone converted their 5D to IR?

I'm toying with the idea of getting a used 5D just for IR. I'm imaging the possibilities with the camera coupled with a 15mm Fisheye and distortion correction software to give the final IR image a hyper-wide 11mm FOV equivalent for certain scenes.

I've seen a few D30 and D60 conversions...IR is a novelty...I don't know that it a 5D value novelty...has someone slipped something in your kool-aid?

LOL

Yeah, I know it's a special "novel" treatment, and older less expensive camera bodies are better candidates for it. My creative juices are flowing and I'm just imaging some possibilities. ;) I'll probably wait a few years for the price to drop down significantly on these suckers. The scenes I have in mind to shoot ain't goin' nowhere.

I'd start with a filter and see if thats what you want as a end result.

an IR 5D would be cool...since I use 5D's for weddings and portraits, my 20D had been gathering dust. So two weeks ago I sent it to LifePixel and just got it back last Thursday.

I won't have a chance to use it much for a few more weeks, but I think it will be an awesome thing to have.

Not a bad idea, Corey.

My thoughts exactly. Exploring a new realm in digital imaging. Oh yeah.

Well, if you are, you'd better have your discharge papers in hand.

Well, with the filter, you can find out if you like what you get, so there's no harm there. Then you wouldn't be too crazy.

If you don't mind going back to a 20D, there are some 20Da's floating around that are good for IR and astrophotography straight from Canon with no 3rd party mods. This model also adds an LCD preview mode.

Wow a 5D converted just for IR (way over my head :) ).
However pop on an IR filter (ex. R72) and use a tripod and you can get descent results with little cost (the way I chose).
