OK...seems that a lot of people have gone through several bags. I'm sure there are stories behind all of them and how they ended up with their current bag. Here's mine:
Once upon a time....(ok..kinda cheesy), I bought my XT the night before my family and I headed off for a long and overdue vacation. I didn't have time to find a good camera bag, so I just used the old Targus bag that I carried my camcorder in.
Once back from vacation I started looking for that "cool" bag to carry around my new "cool" XT. I trotted off to BestBuy and ended up with a Canon 200DG. This was a pretty good bag. It had enough room for both my camcorder and the XT, along with my 420EX, and new 28-135IS lens....but not much more.
So after a few months, the 200DG and I kind of just became friends after I met the Lowepro Minitreker. Now this was a cool bag. Big enough for everything that I currently had and MORE! I filled in all the empty slots in this bag with a nifty fifty and a 70-200 f/4 and even an upgrade to the 20D. Unfortunately it was a short relationship...it didn't work out because I needed something that I could carry on my side and whip the camera out on a moments notice. The mini just wasn't satisfying my needs.
After hearing all about the Lowepro 75AW, I decided to give it a try. I thought this was the bag for me ....a perfect match. Especially after adding on 2 additional lens cases to carry everything else I owned. I had the ability to change lenses on the fly without having to juggle things around and potentially dropping a lens or even the camera for that matter. I could even take a lens case off if I knew I wouldn't need the camcorder or the 70-200.
Unfortunately, after several months, the 75AW just wasn't the same bag I remembered from the beginning. It grew too fat with the lens cases and all. All that weight became too cumbersome to carry around on one shoulder. Plus, it became a pain in my side...literally. Walking around with it on my side with it flopping around with every step became very annoying.
I needed something that I could carry around that would feel comfortable and that could be accessed rather quickly. That's when the Lowepro Slingshot 300 came into my life. I'm loving this bag. It is the best of both worlds- a side bag and a backpack. It holds everything I own, even my newly upgraded 30D and 70-200 2.8IS...MOUNTED. I can carry it securely on my back when walking around and whip it around in a flash to access the camera.
I think I've finally settled down now with my new bag....for now.
