I like the lens for the price, but as you can see, my copy is pretty soft at the long end. This shot is made on a tripod with mirror lock up and a release cable.

PhotoFranz... the focus appears to be on the log/wood (and looks quite sharp) and the Heron looks like it has just moved its upper body. Although it is difficut to judge by internet quality shots. I don't think your lens is that soft. Can you post some more 'still' images at max for comparrison. I'd be interested to see what you get.
