Tomorrow Ill be pulling the trigger on a new set of tripod legs. I had the Manfrotto 30321BPro in my crosshairs but then had another subject pull into sight. The Giottos MT-9160 set of legs. I will be owning a 1D body and the 70-200 f/2.8L in time so I would like to buy a good, steady set once rather than continuously upgrading the setup.Unless of course I go and get some serious primes or that lovely 1200mm.:pThere is a significant weight capacity difference between the two. For multi purpose shooting (portraits, landscapes, sports) which would be suggested? Would one be better than the other? If I do go for the Giotto would a Manfrotto 488RC2 fit on the legs? Or should I just ignore the interfernce and pull the trigger on the Manfrotto?

No experience with the Giotto. The manfrotto is okay.
The manfrotto head should fit the giotto AFAIK.

I have the 9180 and have used it several times now. I really like it and I have been getting much better shots with it.

Well, if you get the EF 1200mm, at least you don't have to worry about a tripod and head as it comes with it's own.:)

very true. But I pulled the trigger on the Manfrotto @ Adorama. I think even though the Giottos 9160's weight capacity is higher than the manfrotto, I think its a bit of an overkill considering that weight cap. is somewhat overrated and unless I hit the lotto and change my gear wishlist, Ill never have that much weight on the set of legs anyway. Ill be happy with the 'frotto.

For that gear, I'd upscale a bit. I go for the Manfrotto 055MF4 or the Gitzo 1540 or 2540.
