Just wondering what the difference between these two tcs are, especially since the shorter one (1.4x) costs twice as much as the slightly longer one (1.5x). In the item descriptions, they both say basically the same thing to me.

Thanks for your input.

Not sure.. But I have the 1.4x TC Kenko.

Might be something to do with optics.. I dont hear much talk about the 1.5x Kenko.

1.5X is older design. It consists of 5 elements in 4 groups without multicoating, weighs slightly less.

1.4X consists of 5 elements in 2 groups and is multicoated. Weighs about 20g more.

Considering the price, I expect that the 1.4x has better optical quality. Also, I believe the diameter of the lens elements is slightly greater so you would get less light fall off in the corners when shooting with large aperture lenses.

I had problems with a 1.5 with my 20d and siggy 70-200 2.8 - lens error every time I tried to focus with it. I returned it for a 1.4, which has worked fine since then. I don't know if it was a bad unit or if it's a common problem with the 1.5's.

but the 1.5x is a DG model no?

i believe the 1.4x will have better optics as its a pro model. kind of like comparing the ef 28-105mm II and the ef 24-105mm L - the consumer lens will keep up reasonably, but the pro model is still better.

Does anyone have any pictures or experience using both of these TC's?

I know the pricer Pro 1.4X has better optics but I've scoured the internet and was not able to find any pictures of side by side comparisons between the Kenko 1.5X and 1.4X.

Pass on the old 1.5x. Make sure you get a Kenko Pro 1.4x.
