I was wondering if there are any reasonably price (less that $150) backpacks out there that would allow me to carry both my camera and my school work at once. I'd really like to be able to carry my gear with me when I'm on campus, but I don't want to cary a separate bag, nor do I just want to throw my gear in my normal pack for fear of it getting damaged (when I set down the pack, if it tips over, etc). I was looking at getting the Burton Zoom or Dakine Sequence, but neither look like they have much space for anything but a camera. An added bonus of these packs is that they have ski straps so I could carry my skis more easily in the back-country. Anyone have opinions on these or other packs that fit the criteria?

I don't have a lot of gear and I don't plan on every carrying a whole lot to school. I'd simply like space for my 70-200 f/4L, Sigma 17-70, Flash and maybe my Nifty or Lensbaby (both are small/cheap, can go in a random pocket). I'll eventually have a 430EX also, but that's about the extent of what I'm going to lug around (yeah I know its a lot, probably wouldn't carry it every day.)

You could check out the Lowepro CompuDaypack. It has ample room up top for books, a laptop or anything else. Then a seperate compartment on the bottom for gear. The only problem I've found with it, is that as far as storing the gear, your kind of limited to what you can put in there. If you just planning to store your camera and a lens or two then you should be good. You could comfortably store a camera with a medium zoom lens attached and two other lenses no problem. Check it out

Man, too bad that lowepro bag is so ugly. Granted looks arn't my #1 concern, but it also doesn't exactly fit my 70-200 f4L anywhere...

The Lowepro isn't as bad as it looks in the picture. Have you taken a look at the Tamrac Adventure series. There similar to the Lowepro, but the good thing is that they have three different sizes to meet your needs. As shown in the picture, I think all your equipment, even your 70-200 f/4L. Same problem with them though, there more designed to hold camera equipment more then anything.

I use the Kata R-103 and put my notes in the laptop storage area.
