The leader of the local photographers was using a Nikon D70 and a 35mm Canon EOS-1. His assistant carried another Nikon (D70 I think)

They obviously don't spend a lot of time on the gear based forums

Very nice shots,
Mike

No, I don't think they do. And truthfully, they don't have a whole hell of a lot of outlets to go about getting the latest and greatest gear. It's not like he can make a quick run down to B&H and pick up that new 50L. The lead photographer offered to buy my 1Dinosaur on the spot. I declined his offer, but now wish I had sold it to him. I could've easily got another one when I got back here, but an opportunity for him to get one is rare. I now regret that decision, but at the time I still needed two cameras for my vacation. Nevertheless, they were totally awesome and didn't operate under the self-imposed restrictions some wedding photographers here seem to think they need to do to get the job done. I love Africa.

A behind the scenes look...

For RAW conversions, according to the speaker at a workshop I just attended, seems they are waiting the release of adobe lightroom. He stated grudgingly that it looks like they have a winner on their hands and swears he was not sponsored by adobe. It was either NIK CAPTUREONE or LIGHTROOM which is only a beta version. With your credentials Adobe might want your input on it. The beta version runs until the end of February. Here's some info on it. http://wetpixel.com …reone-37-raw-conversions/ (external link)

Cool, man. Thanks. But my credentials don't mean sh!t. I'd like to see Lightroom fully support Canon's Picture Styles. That's about it.

I tried to read everything and don't think this was asked/answered:

why is there money down the bride's dress?

As for the photos - I can't think of a new way to say "Great photos!"

It's some sort of tradition I believe. You pay the bride or groom for a dance. They usually just stuff the money wherever. In this case her dress. At least that's what I've been told.

Gotta love the customs of other sects. I believe that it's becoming a lost thing, around the globe, but capturing moments of what once was, that's art.

Thanks, dude. Pretty powerful statement there. Nobody's ever called my stuff "art" before. Thanks for making me feel special!

You did a great job with those photos!!!! Something like that happened to me at my sister-in-laws wedding a few years ago. They had hired a local photographer, who was wonderful in person, but was missing some stuff. She seemed to be really rushed and you could see it in some of the photos. Anyway, I just walked around at snapped away and got probably 300 great wedding photos. I'd post them, but that was before I had my digital and before I realized that you can get things burnt to a disk. Anyway, my SIL fell in love with the photos that I took and I gave them to her. She still hasn't gotten her wedding package from the other photographer, all she has are little tiny proofs.

You said this wedding took place a few years ago and she still hasn't received her wedding package ???

Did she already pay the photographer? If the photographer does business like that I wouldn't be surprised if she's out of business now. It's a good thing you were there.

Since were on the critique thing (see other thread), and I know next to nothing about wedding photography other then I shouldn't do it, take what I have to say for what is worth. The shots are absolutely wonderful. Very nice stuff. What I feel is lacking is they went to all that effort to get married in the location they did, but most of the images don't speak to that. I want to say ... this is Etheopia, not Florida, the Bahamas, Carribean or one of the other usual wedding spots. Again, beautiful images... I just want to see Etheopia in them more.....

what a great opportunity though.... very cool
