The bottom picture is a comparison shot with a Canon 300D DSLR and 17-85mm IS lens at maximum wide-angle, f/4. Viewed full-size, the 800IS shot appears sharper, but perhaps a bit overexposed - which can be fixed easily in or out of the camera. Note, however, that the 17-85mm lens is not renowned for its sharpness. Personally, I prefer the colors in the DSLR shot - they look more like the real thing. I tried some postprocessing on the first shot, but could not get a match. I need to start with a better exposure and try again.
