Tareq,

I for one am happy with my 5D (only camera I have...ha ha...that's why!).
But this has been an interesting comparison for sure.

Take care of that Flu! (don't "lend" your flu to your friend along with your 24-70!!!)

i think i will not go tomorrow, i will go to sleep as i am so tired and i am sure i will not wake up on the time, but tomorrow i will go to take shots by both cameras and using same settings and same lens and will see the results.
but you all didn't tell me, should i use high ISO or just it is ok to try ISO 50-200?
for IQ as some said it is difficult to tell on monitors, so i do noise tests mostly, but as you wish or like, just tell me what type of tests would you like to see?

wow... I can actually tell the difference even in a web jpg.

I cant belive the 5D has less noise than the "beast" 1Ds...

I think the 5D is a SOILD purchase. Damn... Now I want a 20D, 5D, and Mark II 1D N

doesn't matter really, each camera has its own performance, still that 1Dsmk2 a dream camera for alot even that 5D beaten in noise level.

if you come to real extreme tests maybe and ignoring noise high test maybe you can see that 1Ds beaten 5D, i read many where that still 1Dsmk2 remain more details on the pic than 5D even with high iso cleaner by 5D.

I think the current CMOS with digic II sensors are pretty clean upto about ISO 400. So seeing at at ISO 3200, the 5D is cleaner, I'd try the 30D, 5D and 1DsMII at ISO 800 and 1600, where noise is more significant, and at ISO most would shoot at to make prints.

I'd use a tripod with a prime lens and zoom with your feet so that the image is the same size, roughly, so you don't resize it on the computer so we're not looking at 100% crops from 1DsMII, 125% crops from 5D, and 200% crops from the 30D for objects to be the same size. Ideally, things should be well exposed but in a relatively dark place where higher ISO settings are most commonly used. I'm not sure about testing high ISO settings in a bright mid day sun, as no one would shoot ISO 1600 with strong lighting when they can use ISO 100.

Get some sleep for now and do it when you have time. It'll be interesting to see.
Thanks.

I see that this little exercise has caused some to rethink their last purchases. :) And although this experiment was not very scientific, it got me going! I love my 5D!

Nope, noise is a function of the sensor, and NOT the DIGIC-II processor. The DIGIC2 only comes into play for high ISO shots, as it runs an anti-noise algorithm, but that is it.

Tareq, thanks for taking the time to put this comparison up but I think the results have to be taken with a grain of salt - it would require a lot more real world testing or a very thorough systematic evaluation to determine which camera is "best".

I have no doubt that both cameras are exceptional and that a 5D would be the best camera for the majority of people. However if you are doing high quality studio or commercial photography with great lighting I think the 1DsM2 will start to come into its own, especially if you need to make extremely large prints of the images.
