After reading many of the threads here, it appears as though there are a lot of people here who are new to photography and not just coming to digital from film.
One of the best interactive resources I have found for the learning the basics of photography, from exposure to lenses to composition is the Canon Photography Workshop CD. Rather than go through a lengthy description of the CD, here is the link to the manufacturer's website.
