Went into the camera store today and the salesman was trying to sell me all these accessories. Not sure if I needed them. Gels, wipes, dust blowing thing, filter, batteries etc.

All I wanted was the camera which I got (400D). I told myself I wouldn't buy anything else until I did more research.

So my question is what are the small items that I should be looking at?

microfiber cloths, rocketblower, and filters. extra battery (allthough you can by them online for a portion of the price). salesguy was actually doing a good job (miracles do happen) allthough you probably don't need the price tags you were getting in the store look around online.. make sure you have a good bag and atleast one extra memory card more if you shoot RAW....

welcome to POTN by the way and congrats on the new camera..

Bare minimum must haves:
Rocket blower, microfiber lens cloth, lens brush, at least 2 CF cards (nothing in the world worse than leaving one card in the card reader and not having a spare, or filling up the card and not having a spare...right when you get to the big point of the event), card reader, camera bag or pack.

well said wool.

Thanks Sari...there are probably a couple other things that won't hurt.

A spare battery from SterlingTek would be a good idea too...and priced right as well.

I dunno if I could live without my Canon E1 Hand Strap!! It makes holding your camera more like holding a small camcorder (if that makes any sense). Much easier on your hand!

Until you are familiar with the camera inside and out keeping the owners manual in the bag might come in handy.

If you shoot people: A good flash unit.
If you shoot landscapes or architecture: A good tripod.

Neat idea, I never thought about something like that. But then what do I do when I finally get myself a flash??? ;)
