^^^
This is a perfect example of personal taste affecting a photograph. I LOVE the original crop. Yes, there is a lot of "empty space" above them. BUT that space emphasizes the fact that these are two very young people caught up in an adult celebration, and taking a moment to just wander off and be kids...of course they are not quite far enough away yet to run as they really want to... At least, that's the story I see in this photo.

The first shot shows them being alone and being kids. I agree.

The edit shows them more leaving, that's one of the rules underlying the rule of thirds. Like lines depending the location of the subject and how they are positioned, they are more than just posed figured but can me moving it the edit shows that.

^^both crops have certain values in which none can be "better"
for example i love the free space in the first, yet i would also like them positioned more to the left of the frame, as the 2nd crop emphasizes..
it gives more perspective, and more definition, but also takes away the "freedom" and space within the frame

So far, I have only done one vow renewal and one wedding - neither had guests or family involved - its nice to ease my way into these events. People like this one...I love it too, all natural light! Just happened to click at the right moment, I guess =)

This would look great as a silhouette! Sort of a Lion King or Out Of Africa style.
