The first is an engagement, flash (fake sun) in the background. The second is easily my favorite wedding shot so far.

I am in the same boat as you. Started out shooting cars (still do), but switched to doing more portraits. It's definitely a challenge, but also a lot of fun. I always get excited when I get a great expression, kind of like when you nail a slow shutter panning shot. With cars, you have to carefully select the background to make sure it compliments your subject. With portraits (since people are smaller), it's a lot easier to place your subject with a flattering background.
