Your trigger finger of course your perverts!!!

A friend posted this on a FPS forums, first person shooter forum, to see how fast people can react to something on the screen, as many people cry hacker when someone is faster then them, they dont beleive it.. and cant admit to it! get that, someone out there who could better then you at something..lol :)

So for our scenario, if you had to whip out your camera and all settings were good, or you tossed it to sports mode for a fast capture or something , or you were waiting for that perfect moment to shoot.... and didnt want to miss it, like a cat jumping in the air shot type thing...

how fast could you actually get a shot off? would you get it, or would you miss it....

first one is speed, how fast you react, i avereged .25 and i had just woken up about 20 mins before, then i tried later and did worse being awake!

try it out....

http://www.mathsisfun.com/games/reaction-time.html (external link)

it tests speed, but ALSO, it test to see if you almost react better to something more expected. ? or suprise! seems most people react better to a suprise,, or something not expected...

2nd link.... more of a speed and accuracy, i didnt finish it, i got bored..lol

Interesting I guess!

I got 0.197 (my fastest being 0.167 for the first dot) for the reaction time game

Try the Tanks one for another fun time-waster. (Maybe the last link) ;)

What's neat is that colour is perceptually the most easily identified change. ie: we react fastest to colour changes. Think about the evolutionary foundation for that. How many poisonous insects are BRIGHTLY coloured orange, red, yellow, etc. For that reason alone we (earlier primal versions) and other animals must be able to quickly detect and avoid these sorts of things. It'd be interesting to see how quickly we react in a comparable situation to a shape change (e.g., the circle changing to a square of the same colour).

I would have guessed that it would be movement. I am an avid hiker and we run up to deer all the time. Sometimes we get within 20 yards and still do not see them. One head tilt though and the whole heard just pops out of the woods. I think it's because we compress data in our noggins. Nothing changes, so we use the same data over and over again just like a mpeg. It would be an interesting experiment to do the same with color and movement and see the results. Any students out there need a science project? Maybe I'll get ambitions and program something up real quick ;)

My avg was .214 right handed and .22 left handed. I also tried it with the
touch pad instead of the USB trackball (on my laptop) and it was .7 to 1.2 slower.
So the mechanical interface does matter.

.191 my first time.

I'm a gamer, and yes, reaction times, in PC games, especially Counter-Strike and CS:S (Source version) are RIDICULOUS. You have to be extremely quick. You either make that first shot in Counter Strike before the other guy does, or your toast!

BUT, don't get me wrong, I don't play Counterstrike anymore, I don't like the game very much. I play Enemy Territory :D
