Have an IXUS60 (POwershot SD600) but I find it lacking in ability to take a picture quikly and poor zoom

I want to retain reasonable size so feel s3 is out the question, any suggestions, what about the Powershot A710 IS or go mad - the G7

I have a Powershot A620 (now replaced by the A630). It takes great shots and uses easily obtained AA batteries. I use it when I don't want to carry the 30D, when I'm going to places I don't consider safe, and on the beach.

I use the A620 as my "everywhere" camera too, having upgraded it from an A80 I highly recommend the high-end A-series (ones with a swivel screen).

Since I bought the Canon 700 IS last summer, I must declare it is the BEST point-and-shoot camera out there!!

Picture quality is superb at 6 MP with a decent optical zoom. It has built in image stabilization, which works wonderfully. Its a small camera, perfect for the pocket, but still packs a powerful punch.

But my favorite aspect thus far has been the digital videos you can take - 640x480 at 30 fps - looks almost just as good as my mini DV camera so much that I don't use that video camera hardly ever.

Hook this one up with a 2 gig SD card and you'll taking tons of pics and videos. Well, maybe not that many because you'll be too busy with your 30D - I know I would.

As an owner of a 30D, I too own the SD800IS and love it. Just know it's limits and it'll produce wonderful photos. Light, compact and great for those days you don't want to lug around a DSLR.

I also have an A620 and it's a great camera. I still use it for many things and never feel like I am compromising image quality when using it. When I go shooting with one of my good friends I bring my 30D and she shoots with the A620 and she always comes back with beautiful pictures. I also use it a lot for product phorography mounted atop a lightbox I made. I believe the newer A630 and A640 are also outstanding cameras.

Personally the best P&S to have to complement any DSLR that one may have is having a compact with the wider angle lens. Most P&S cameras start in the range of 36 or 38mm (equiv). I have the Powershot S80 and I love it. I know it's a disco'd unit now, and I would prob consider the SD800 for one that is current and it has the wider angle lens.

Just from my experience, I have found myself in situations needing the extra space in framing than using any sort of a tele zoom shot on a P&S camera.
