I can think of:

UWA = EF 16-35 f/2.8L
WA = 24-70 f/2.8L or 24-105 f/4L IS

If you are talking about zoom lenses that is...I just assumed you were...

Primes or zooms, I just want a lens that can give me the best IQ possible for landscapes and portraits.

I have been reading that the 16-35 has a problem with vignetting, but the UWA sounds SOOOOOOO tempting.

The 16-35 certainly has that trait on the 5D. But I think it's an inherent problem.

So far it's been a 5 second fix in ACR...so I don't even consider it a problem.

It does distort as well...again, this may be a desireable thing and can be used creatively, or it can simply be corrected in PP. Not too difficult to do.

I was at the beach in the cold the other weekend, and I really liked how much I can "fit" in the frame with the 16-35L. I can really get that sweeping style going with the sky, the sand...and the way it plays with the geometry...I think used right, it adds to the effect!

Oh, and gotta love the constant f/2.8...I wasn't going to get this lens originally, but I found a local seller...and it was an offer I couldn't refuse.

For me the 17-40 is perfect with the 5D outdoors. Indoors the 24-70 is plenty wide. If you don't have the 24-70, I'd try that lens out first.

UWA zooms:

17-40L f/4
16-35L f/2.8

WA zooms:

24-105L f/4 IS
24-70L f/2.8

If you have plenty of cash and want fast, you'll probably like a 16-35L & 24-70L combo. Maybe the 24-105 if you prefer IS over f/2.8 (and perhaps a little extra range).

If you want the absolute best corner to corner sharpness and money is no object, then the Zeiss 21mm f2.8 Distagon on an EOS adapter is the best, no question. Doesn't zoom very well, though:lol: and it'll run close to 3 grand used.
The 16-35 or 17-40 I think are both excellent - the aperture is the deciding factor but for landscapes I'd think a 17-40 would do well.
My other weird suggestion is the old (but still works fine) Tokina 17mm "Pro" prime. Very low distortion and quite sharp stopped down to 5.6. They can be found on eBay, etc. for around $300 and are quite the bargain in my opinion. I still miss the one I had.

Landscape scenes, building interiors...16-35 or 17-40

People shots, walkaround tourist in Europe, weddings...24-70 (just be aware of perspective distortion of people in the 24-27mm range)

There has been al ot of talk about this lately!

Anything super wide on a 5D will naturally show a bit of light falloff at the very corner edges.

14mm Prime is available as well as the 15mm fisheye. The 16-35 is a good choice too.
