LOL very true. They are a nice group of folks there but a little too pricey. Good for the stuff you gotta have right away and can't wait on it to ship.

Just an update, after calling KEH, CRJ, and Canon, rough estimates for what appeared to be a faulty shutter would have been around $200+, IF that's what was truly wrong and nothing more. After speaking with Canon yesterday and getting the scoop on their loyalty program, I decided not to get the 40D repaired and instead opted on getting a refurbished 7D from Canon. I'll send them my 40D for them to salvage parts & recycle.

I figured I'd probably be getting a 7D in the near future anyway, and the price from them was too good to pass up. I hope it's a good refurb. If not, I'll have 14 days for a return/exchange and a 90 day warranty.

Aside from postings here, I'd heard other good things about CRJ from other folks, and I came really close to taking the camera there to get repaired until I heard Canon's price for a refurb 7D (almost $500 of the price of a new one).

Just food for thought for anyone else out there who might be in a similar situation in the future... sounds like we have some good repair facilities in the area if you need to go that way, or consider Canon's loyalty program for a refurb. I should get my 7D Friday.

One more FYI for folks wanting to shoot hot air balloons in the metro area. My co-worker told me about another event in Suwanee next month. Here's an excerpt from theCrossRoads newsletter about it.

Glow in the Gateway – Nov. 12 & 13
The City will host a hot air balloon glow in the Gateway area near Lowe’s Friday evening, November 12, and a balloon race on Saturday, November 13. Specific times are still to be determined. More information about Glow in the Gateway will be available at www.suwanee.com as the event nears.

Anybody going to the Location Lighting seminar at the Galleria tomorrow?

BTW Tim, my ballooning buddy at work said the organizers of the event in Suwanee had some other family obligations that came up, and they didn't have the time to organize the event like they wanted, so they postponed it.

Yes, I went. I met up with Marc (Lowbyte) there. I enjoyed the presentation as well. Joe usually does a good job based on some PS World sessions I've seen, but my only knock on him for yesterday was I think he took a little too long on reshooting some of the same shots trying to tweak things. Still, I picked up a lot of good info, renewed my NAPP membership (which would've been up in 2 months) and got a few goodies!

It looked like that ballroom was full. Marc did a quick estimate and if I remember right, guessed there were about 400 folks there.

Very nice! I think the first is my fave. Is the color up there at peak or past it? I'm pretty sure I still can't get up that way before the leaves are gone, but I thought I'd ask.

Brasstown Bald is past peak and many leaves are gone. As you go lower there is spotty color here and there but a lot of leaves were blown down in the storms last week. Overall the color is disappointing and not nearly as good as last year (which was not great then). Here is a shot from Friday at Unicoi Lake to show you what the lower elevations looked like:

I was at Joe's Seminar Monday also. Follows pretty much as the on line class at Kelbytraining.com but there they have several of his classes on line.

Heard the seminar was pretty good. I got a chance to catch Joe at Zack's studio on Tuesday night. Joe seems like a great guy with great stories.....

I went to one of my favorite spots to shoot and the colors were lost on most of the yellows already and the reds went brown fast this season. I don't know if I can link it fron Facebook but I'm going to try. If not I'll shoot it to another place. Nice shots from the Bald!

Lava, how's the 7D going with you? After the first weekends disaster I'm getting more used to it and have had much better results. I'm in Macon but when I get home I'll post some shots. My biggest problem was having to upgrade from Lightroom 2.4 to the 3.2 so it would recognize the files!
